Ok, so Lily was nice enough to tag me in that “10 Things About You” chain that has been going around. I tried to respond to it yesterday from my Kindle, but since I’m a Tumblr app newbie I accidentally posted my reply before I actually wrote anything, so I deleted rather than taking the time to edit it. I decided that I’d still like to write my list even though I messed the message up. I talk so much here about my life as a mother, but very little about myself as an individual, so I decided I would make this…

10 Things About Me (That Have Nothing to do With Parenthood)

1. My senior thesis at Berkeley was called “Reflections from the Damaged State: Postwar West German Art and the Crisis of National Identity” and was about the artwork of Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Anselm Kiefer. I was awarded high honors and a departmental prize for my work.

2. I believe there is nothing more delicious than a really good sandwich.

3. I was only 19 when I got married. I took a lot of flak for it, and several family members were openly unhappy at my wedding, but I like to think that despite my young age I knew what I was doing.   

4. My favorite book is Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera. It’s the only book I’ve read more than once, and I’ve read it over 10 times.

5. For most of my life I wanted to be an archaeologists when I grew up. 

6. I’m only in regular contact with one of my childhood friends, despite the fact that I was positive 10 years ago that I would stay close with all of my good friends from my school years.

7. Speaking of friends, I’m the maid of honor in my best friend’s wedding this upcoming June, and I’m kind of starting to freak out because I don’t know what is expected of me. I’ve never been in a wedding, and my own was totally untraditional. 

8. My top 5 favorite musical artists are St. Vincent, Rufus Wainwright, Ryan Adams, Andrew Bird, and Sufjan Stevens.

9. I really dislike the idea of camping. I haven’t been camping since I was a very young child, and I don’t have the desire to do it any time in the future. Sleeping outside? No thank you.

10. I have a really bad sweet tooth. You can always find cookies, chocolate, and ice cream in my kitchen.
