How often do you take your baby to the doctor?
All day today I have been wondering, I am one of those moms? The kind of mom that overreacts and takes her baby to the doctor too often?
Aside from well-baby checks, I’ve taken E in twice over some concern. First it was the rash on her chin (which turned out to be nothing), now it’s diarrhea that while not severe has been going on for six days. Of course her doctor is overly cautious (aren’t they all?) and although she seems totally fine has requested labs to rule out bacterial infection, and wants me to come back tomorrow just to check her vitals again. I feel like I’m at that office all the time. I’ve also called the advice line a bunch of times, and sent like four emails to her doctor.
I just really hope this doesn’t count as overreacting. Most of this stuff I’m not even that worried about, but I decide to consult her doctor just in case, and then this leads to that and before you know it I’m scraping poop out of her diaper with a tongue depressor and putting it into a test bottle thingie and scheduling follow ups. I just hope when the receptionist sees me she doesn’t think “Her again??” and that her doctor doesn’t sigh every time she sees a new email from me.

Sounds totally normal. Would you rather be the Mom who over reacted and went too much, or the Mom who chose to ignore something and let their baby get really sick? I think you’re doing the right thing.

I have spent so much time at the ped with Jude that they know my voice over the phone. Sometimes I was overreacting. Sometimes it was legitimate. But it’s ALWAYS better safe than sorry. At least, in my opinion.

We take Caroline in way more than that. I figure I am paying enough for my insurance, if I’m unsure of something, she’s getting checked!

I did the same thing with Veltie and would do it now over things that I don’t understand. I’m glad to hear that your doctor seems to want answers too though. You know when something isn’t right and it’s okay to seek advice.

Everyone does that with their first baby. I never take my kids in anymore unless I know they need antibiotics because they just tell you the same thing every time and it’s almost always just a little virus.
