SAHM Guilt
Lately I’ve been feeling really guilty about being a stay at home mom. My husband works so hard and he never gets a break, while I laze around the house, play on the floor, hang out with friends, and read books while our daughter takes her three hour nap every afternoon.  When we started talking about having children and me staying home with them, I sort of assumed it would feel like more...

Little Moments
As a parent, I’ve found that I often experience small moments that are so simple and lovely that I hope I can somehow lock them away in my memory forever. They are the kind that take place in the midst of a very ordinary day, often while doing very ordinary things, but they catch you off guard with their sweetness and make you think, “This is it. This is what life is all about.”...

Co-sleeping: Phase 2
Tonight begins Phase 2 of our co-sleeping arrangements. I finally ordered a bed rail to replace our Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper bassinet. The bassinet was only supposed to last until Eleanor was 5 months old, but we kept using it beyond the recommended age. Since Eleanor slept swaddled until just a few weeks ago, I wasn’t worried about her trying to climb out of it. Plus, the second she...

Mom Confession #3
Trigger warning:* This post is about poop. I’m an eternal fan of cloth diapering, but I have to admit, it gets way, way more gross once solid foods enter the picture. You always hear cloth diapering mom’s going on and on about how cloth diapers are really just as easy and mess free as disposables, and its totally true when the baby is breastfed, but when it comes to that awful sticky...

Me Time
Before the baby: Putting on some music and taking a nice, long, super hot bubble bath in the evening. After the baby: Putting on some music and doing the dishes while my husband gives the baby a bath in the evening.

Mom Confession #2
(At least I think this is only my second.) I’m really afraid of Eleanor turning into a toddler. She is so crazy sweet right now. It makes me sad to think of her becoming stubborn and willful, and doing things like hitting and biting out of frustration and anger. I understand why toddlers behave that way, and it isn’t that there is anything inherently wrong with it, but it’s just...

10 Things
Ok, so Lily was nice enough to tag me in that “10 Things About You” chain that has been going around. I tried to respond to it yesterday from my Kindle, but since I’m a Tumblr app newbie I accidentally posted my reply before I actually wrote anything, so I deleted rather than taking the time to edit it. I decided that I’d still like to write my list even though I messed the...

Ergo Hip Carry
I’ve got a whole new reason to love our Ergo carrier. Today I decided to try out the hip carry position for the first time. Usually when I do housework I put Eleanor in the Ergo on my back, and while it is really convenient and supremely comfortable, I don’t really like having her back there because I can’t see her and interact with her. It makes me feel like I’m not...

How often do you take your baby to the doctor?
All day today I have been wondering, I am one of those moms? The kind of mom that overreacts and takes her baby to the doctor too often?  Aside from well-baby checks, I’ve taken E in twice over some concern. First it was the rash on her chin (which turned out to be nothing), now it’s diarrhea that while not severe has been going on for six days. Of course her doctor is overly cautious...

Another Last
Eleanor in her Moby, 6 days old This morning I was grabbing something out of the baby’s closet, and I notice the Moby wrap laying all crumpled in a basket. It suddenly struck me that I couldn’t remember the last time I had put her in it. I used to use it every day, in the beginnings for naps, and later while I did chores. Had it been weeks? A month? Two months? When she was a...

go-mo-go asked: Hey! I really enjoyed and appreciated your post on BLW. I've been considering it for Mo, but we did get the Baby Bullet. Do you think it's too confusing to feed a baby from a spoon but also give them steamed strips of veggies? Also, when are you introducing meats, if ever? I also wanted to ask how big Eleanor is. Mo is not fitting so well in her size M G's anymore, but...

Baby Things
Eleanor with a few of the toys she got for Christmas When I was pregnant one of the best moments was when we took all of the baby stuff we had been hiding away in the nursery closet and started setting up our house in preparation of her arrival. I absolutely loved living in a place where the baby’s presence was all around. I loved the hooded, polka-dotted baby towels hanging in our...

My resolution this year
is to get out of the house with the baby more often. Now if I could only think of some (free) things for us to do. I signed up for several local mom’s Meet Up groups, but haven’t attended any gatherings because none have been close enough to our house or easily accessible via public transit. I think today we’ll go to the park, but aside from walks and park trips, I don’t have any ideas. What kind...

2011 in Pictures
January We bought Eleanor’s crib and dresser/changing table, and began setting up her nursery.  We went for a 3D ultrasound and got our first glimpse of our sweet girl’s face. February We took our first family portrait, I was 25 weeks pregnant. My belly continued to grow. March My cousin threw a beautiful baby shower for us in Phoenix, I was 32 week along. April ...

Saying Goodbye to 2011
As we approach 2012, I feel myself burdened with an odd sort of weight, a deep sadness in the midst of so much joy. I remember so clearly what I felt like this time last year. I was so excited for the new year, the year that would bring my baby. I was eager for the calendar pages to turn, but this year I just want to find a way to make time stand still. I wish it could be 2011 forever. A...

Mama's Girl
Eleanor is definitely a mama’s girl, and a shy one at that. She is not the kind of baby who is game to be passed around from adoring relative to adoring relative. She clings tightly to me, and if anyone she deems a stranger gets too close, she tucks her head down on my shoulder and grips my shirt tight in her little hands. Of course I am flattered, but it has made our last two visits to...

Whew!
We’re finally home, after a very busy week and a very exhausting flight with an overtired baby. I’m glad to be home, but I’m already trying to plan our next visit, and missing my mom like crazy.

Two More
Eleanor’s two top front teeth broke through today. They’ve been close and very visible for about two weeks, and now they are finally out. I can’t wait to see what her new smile will look like, but I’m sad that her gummy grin is totally gone now.

logansmummy replied to your photo: Eleanor is 30 weeks old! Today she and I went to… Random but these things intrigue me.. Do you ever call Eleanor, Ellie? Or do you not like nicknames? The name is so pretty, but unfortunately reminds me of my ex’s mistakes lol. Your eleanor is absolutely gorgeous though :) x One of the reasons we liked the name Eleanor was because it lent itself to so...
